History

Matilha4Patas: An Inspiring Journey

From the outset, my connection with dogs has shaped my professional vision. It all began with an act of compassion towards my neighbor’s dog, Hatch, a magnificent Rottweiler. After the owner’s passing, the responsibility fell on a 90-year-old lady. This encounter, coupled with the presence of my other dog, Pamela, marked the beginning of my journey into the canine world.

Matilha's Expansion and Daily Commitment

What initially was a simple gesture of compassion evolved into a steadily growing pack. We started helping more and more families, offering walks, in-home baths, and training. This daily commitment resulted in many satisfied clients and happy dogs, showcasing our dedication to the care and well-being of the animals that are part of our pack.

Investing in Knowledge

Course with New Dog In 2021, I took a crucial step to enhance my skills by attending my first training course with Ricardo from New Dog. This experience provided the opportunity to refine my techniques and deepen my understanding of the complexity of the canine mind. This commitment to continuous learning reflects our relentless pursuit of offering the best possible service.

Matilha as an Agent of Transformation: Scientific Basis in Canine Psychology

Our pack’s mission goes beyond daily walks. We aim to bring the knowledge of canine psychology to people facing challenges with their dogs. With a scientifically grounded approach, we are committed to providing not only walks but also educational solutions for those seeking a better understanding of their four-legged friends.

Connecting People and Dogs: Our Unique Proposition

Our pack’s proposition is unique: combining technical knowledge in canine psychology with an empathetic approach to help those who already have dogs and are facing challenges. If you seek a better understanding of your canine companion and overcoming any difficulties, join us on this journey. In the Pack, we not only walk with dogs; we build relationships, share knowledge, and transform lives, one paw at a time.

Methodology

Dog training is a practice that significantly benefits the relationship between pets and their guardians, promoting desirable behaviors and strengthening communication between them. The methodology presented below is based on scientific articles, combining modern behavioral approaches and ethical principles to achieve effective and lasting results.

1. Understanding Canine Behavior

Scientific Basis: It draws on behavioral studies, such as those conducted by John L. Fuller and John Paul Scott, to understand the nature of canines. This includes analyzing the social, cognitive, and physical needs of dogs.

2. Positive Reinforcement:

Scientific Basis: Research by B.F. Skinner and other behaviorists confirms that positive reinforcement is an effective tool for promoting desirable behaviors in dogs. The use of rewards, such as treats and praise, strengthens positive associations.

3. Social Learning Theory Approach:

Scientific Basis: Albert Bandura and other researchers have highlighted the importance of social learning in animals. In dog training, we incorporate this theory, allowing dogs to learn by observing other dogs or humans.

4. Adaptation of Clicker Training Methods:

Scientific Basis: Clicker training, based on Ivan Pavlov's theories of classical conditioning, is scientifically supported to improve communication between guardian and dog, providing clear and immediate feedback.

5. Understanding Individual Canine Psychology:

Scientific Basis: Recent studies, such as those conducted by Clive D.L. Wynne, emphasize individual variation in canine psychology. We adapt the training approach to consider the personality differences, history, and specific needs of each dog.

6. Monitoring Stress and Well-being:

Scientific Basis: Articles by researchers like Karen L. Overall and Temple Grandin provide insights into stress indicators in dogs. We constantly monitor the emotional well-being of animals during training, adjusting strategies as necessary.

7. Responsible Use of Negative Punishments:

Scientific Basis: Respecting ethical principles and based on studies by Jean Donaldson and others, occasional negative punishments are applied in moderation and educationally, always considering the well-being of the animal.

8. Continuous Updates Based on Current Research:

Scientific Basis: The methodology is dynamic, evolving based on contemporary scientific research. We constantly follow advancements in canine ethology and animal psychology to ensure training practices aligned with the latest findings.

By adopting this evidence-based dog training methodology, we aim to provide not only obedience but also emotional well-being to animals, strengthening the harmonious relationship between dogs and their guardians.
